at Kakawis Family Development Centre

Meares Island, b.c.

This Is An Alcohol & Drug-Free Event

The 22nd annual Island Bridges retreat will once again take place on the stunningly beautiful Meares Island, a 20-minute boat ride from Tofino, B.C. on the West Coast of Vancouver Island.

This rustic setting is truly beyond description: circled by cedar trees, Lone Cone Mountain reaching upward (for hikers, you can ascend the peak which offers an unlimited view of the ocean and surrounding islands), an unspoiled beach, and surrounded by various islands dotting the bay. We often see eagles circling overhead, the occasional friendly bear roaming through and a heard of feral cows either munching on the grass or sunbathing on the beach (we kid you not). You will never find a more dramatic sunset than the one you can see from the bench above the cliff overlooking the water. With a short walk through the cedar forest, you come to a peaceful lake ripe for swimming.

We offer Aboriginal ceremonies such as sweat lodges and pipe ceremonies, as well as healers from various disciplines in yoga, meditation, NIA (expressive dance), Reiki, massage, etc. sharing their wealth of knowledge, skills and love of what they do.

The meals are scrumptious and healthy, and there is always a fascinating ceremony to attend.

And most of all, you get to meet new people and share a sense of profound acceptance that has literally altered the lives of many people who have attended over the years.

Participants are encouraged to tent, although there are simple rooms available for those who need them. Washrooms, showers and laundry facilities are available for everybody.

We offer our sincere gratitude to the Kakawis Family Development Centre Society for its continued support of the Island Bridges Gathering.

Island Bridges is completely supported by registration fees. Your work place may be able to assist with funding for your stay at Island Bridges.
